Physical Education Department.
Courses.
GCSE PE.
The course includes theoretical elements, mainly based around anatomy and physiological principles. This element is worth 40%. The practical element is worth 60% and students are expected to be assessed in at least four physical activities. In one of the practical areas students will be expected to produce a written piece of coursework entitled "Personal Exercise Plan", this is currently worth 10% of the overall practical mark. In recent years our students have performed extremely well producing excellent grades.
AS & A2
This course is similar in structure to the GCSE, in that there are assessed theoretical and practical elements. At AS level the theory elements are worth 60% and the practical elements 40%. When a students carries these over to the A2 course they are worth 30% and 20% respectively. A student will study three theoretical areas and two practical. At A2 the theory paper is worth 35% and practical 15% (giving 50%) which is then added to the carried over AS marks which are also 50%. It is a well balanced and enjoyable course which prepares students for the study of sport or P.E. at university or college.
